A Home Remedy For Acne - Apple Cider Vinegar

Although this article specifically talks about apple cider vinegar in actual fact regular vinegar can also be an effective home remedy for acne. All kinds of vinegar can kill the bacteria that causes acne and balance the PH value of your skin.

Vinegar is rich in alpha-hydroxy acids which helps to dissolve fatty deposits on the surface on the skin which absorbs excess oil and promoted a soft, gentle appearance.

Apple cider vinegar is prepared with the fermentation of apple juice. The sugar in the apple juice is broken down and converted to alcohol during the fermentation process. The alcohol is then oxidised into acetic acid, otherwise known as vinegar.

It is best not to use neat vinegar on the skin as that is too strong. Instead dilute it with water. Start off with a mild mixture of just one part vinegar to 8 parts water. You can then work up to 2 or 3 parts vinegar but if your skin starts to feel irritated then weaken the mixture again. Find a level that suits your skin.

How To Use Apple Cider Vinegar as a Home Remedy For Acne

There are two ways to use apple cider vinegar as a home remedy for acne - topically and orally. To use it topically ensure that the skin is clean and then dunk a ball of cotton wool into the diluted vinegar mixture and apply directly to the affected areas of the skin.

All types of vinegar have a fairly pungent smell so if you are using it topically then you may wish to apply it in the evening and leave it overnight. Wash it off with some warm water.

It is also wise to perform a skin test before applying it to your face. Dab a small amount just below your chin and leave it for around 15 minutes. If there is no reaction then go ahead and treat the rest of the affected area. If you experience any tingling or redness you can try repeating the test with a more diluted mixture.

Another way to use the vinegar as a home remedy for acne is orally - which is another reason to use the apple cider variety as it tastes better! It functions as a mild laxative which can help with detoxification and digestive disorders. It helps to clear toxins from the system which allows the skin to rejuvenate itself free of toxins.

Mix 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with a cup of water. If you dislike the taste you can try adding some honey to sweeten it. Drink this tonic one to three times per day. Rinse your mouth thoroughly after drinking in order to remove any excess acid which can damage the enamel on your teeth.
