A Home Remedy For Acne - Fresh Garlic

According to folklore, fresh garlic can be used to ward off evil spirits but did you know that it can also be a highly effective home remedy for acne?

Garlic contains sulphur and is considered to be a natural antibiotic both of which make it a great home remedy for acne. There are primarily two ways in which to use it: topical application and consumption.

Topical Application

Take two cloves of fresh garlic (dried does not work very well) and crush them so that they form a pulp and then squeeze out the juice. You may wish to use some cheesecloth to make this easier. You are now left with concentrated garlic juice and you apply this directly to the affected areas for five minutes and then wash it off.

Don’t be tempted to leave the garlic juice on overnight as the active ingredients in the garlic are so strong that they can actually burn the skin! Keep any unused juice in a sealed container in a refrigerator.

Another variation on the basic garlic juice is to prepare the juice as before but mix with an equal amount of white vinegar. The vinegar helps to balance the skin and the mixture is not quite as harsh to the skin.

Consumption

If you can stomach the taste of garlic you can also incorporate it into your daily diet. Garlic capsules can also work as an alternative to fresh garlic. You don’t have to eat whole cloves at a time - try chopping it up and adding it into cottage cheese to make a delicious dip for raw vegetables for example.

Of of course garlic has an incredibly strong odour so this is not the most social home remedy for acne that you can try so there is one little tip I want to give you before you start your treatment…

If you slice open a garlic clove along the long side, you’ll find a small green piece of flesh in the middle which lifts out easily - remove this as it is this part that contains most of the odour!
